Summary

This live and online training will introduce participants to complex trauma-related dissociation with the aim to bring awareness in an effort to facilitate the process of healing and expand on counselling and therapeutic skills.

Esther van der Sande will guide you as you expand your understanding of the effects of dissociation and how this can affect not only the mind but a person’s ability to connect, learn and participate in therapeutic practices.

This training offers participants an opportunity to build a space to help your clients with an informed empathetic approach.

Introduction to Dissociation

This interactive one-day training course builds on our training programmes that offer a clinical framework and introduces the concept of dissociation.

This training addresses the specific topic and views dissociation as a spectrum, exploring dissociation in everyday life and broadening this to complex trauma-related dissociation.

Training description

Dissociation can be subtle and often difficult to recognise. It is often overlooked in treatment for this reason, and also because it is generally understood as Dissociative Identity Disorder, better known as DIS or DID, which sits at the one end of the spectrum.

This training programme provides important information, opportunities, tools and strategies to support the recognition of dissociation and working with people experiencing dissociation in a therapeutic setting.

This training is based on research and recognition of Complex Trauma-related Dissociation, which is a useful adjunct to this training.

By engaging in this professional development training, participants will:

  • Explore structural dissociation and the organization of personality.
  • Learn about the concepts of dissociation and understand the continuum of dissociative experiences.
  • Complex trauma-related dissociation and its impact on the body, mind and relationships.
  • Explore how to adjust for the possibility of dissociation in a therapeutic setting.

Who should attend this training?

This training is aimed at therapists with knowledge about complex trauma and clinical skills, and who work in a therapeutic/counselling role with complex trauma clients and use clinical assessment, case formation and treatment/care planning in their daily practice.

Psychologists, counsellors, psychotherapists, psychiatrists and social workers in a counselling role will find this training to be appropriate.

This training is also a great addition for people who have done the 20-hour foundational training in Trauma Sensitive Yoga.

This training does not cover the basics of trauma and complex trauma. It is expected that those who are working in this field and register for the training will have this basic understanding.
